The First "Pretty" Installation

Spencer and I were anxious to see the changes made to our house while we were visiting family in Florida. We now have drywall, a garage door, exterior paint, and the first "pretty" item...our wrought iron stair railing!
We decided on a neutral paint color. Eventually, the front door will be painted a dark, almost black color. We'll also have matching shutters.

We have the following changes to look forward to in the near future: the first coat of interior paint, trim, and doors!

The Bricks are Going Up and Calie's Debut

Our exterior bricks started going up and we are very pleased with how they look! Selecting brick, mortar, siding, and trim colors for your house by looking at 1 x 1 square foot samples is next to impossible! Couple that with my extreme indecisive tendencies and my obsessive need to see every.last.option.on.plant.earth and you have yourselves a husband who earned major cudos for being so patient!

Calie, the Goldendoodle, got to explore her new home! As you can see, she's already drooling over her new yard!

She also celebrated her 2nd birthday over the Thanksgiving holiday in true Calie style - new bone and all!

We had the opportunity to select the slabs of granite they will install in our house.

Here's a picture of Spencer looking dapper in his OSHA required duds while supervising the selection of granite!

Up next on the agenda is the plumbing, electrical, and gas line inspections followed by insulation and drywall!

Picture Perfect Framing

Our house has a front porch, second floor, and a roof!

They haven't built the stairs yet so we can't go up to the second floor. This is the view when looking up to the master bedroom:

We can't believe how quickly things are progressing! We have less than three months until our completion date!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Now that's some fantastic first floor framing folks...

Spencer and I have been driving up to our new house weekly since we signed the initial paperwork to buy our home. This weekend we saw big changes! They framed our first floor!

Here's a picture from the front yard:

This is the view when standing in the foyer. Our dining room is to the right and you can see all the way to the back of the house into the family room. {AND our highly anticipated back yard!}

This was taken while standing in the family room and looking up to the lovely second floor...wait a minute...  ; )

The second floor framing should be going up this week!

Is it bad that I'm already working on my Black Friday game plan? {don't judge}
Have a great week!

Progress!

After a couple weeks of what seemed like a whole bunch of nothing, our foundation has been poured! A week ago, Spencer met with our builder for the pre-construction meeting to go over the changes we made to the floor plan,  the whole building process, and to view the lot grading. We were excited to hear that we are still on schedule for a mid-February completion date! Spencer also learned an interesting tid-bit from the builder - the community sits on what used to be a logging site and there is an old logging road that starts at the back corner of our lot.

Here are a few pictures we took this week to document the progress:

Our Graded Lot

Framing should go up this week! Hopefully from here on out, things will move quickly!

On a side note, are there really only 18 days until Thanksgiving?! We're excited to see our family and friends in just a couple weeks!

I'm Dreaming of a White..... Kitchen!

Anyone who follows me on Pinterest knows that I.am.obsessed.with.white.kitchens! I adore everything about them! They are just so fresh, clean, and bright! We've lived in our apartment for just over a year now and I've come to realize that our kitchen is just plain dark. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the contemporary, sleek, dark cabinetry and all wood kitchens do create a nice cozy atmosphere but we have no natural light in our kitchen! So unless the sun is shining in just right, you can't see a thing without turning on the overhead florescent light (I shudder just thinking about it). We're just ready for a change! After scouring through numerous Pinterest pictures and home design blogs, we've settled on a look we love!

Here a few of our must haves for our new kitchen:
  • White wood cabinetry... obviously
  • Stainless steel appliances
  • Dark granite counter tops
  • Dark, rustic wood floors for contrast
  • Grey walls
  • A kitchen window... for that elusive light!
And a couple items on our wish list...
  • A couple of glass front cabinet doors for displaying special serving pieces
  • Large crown molding
  • A French door refrigerator... because while Spencer gets all excited about putting a built in gas line on the patio for a grill, a huge, fancy fridge makes make my heart go pitter patter!
So without further ado, here are three kitchens that have all the aesthetics we love.

What's your personal style? Bright, white kitchens or cozy ones with lots of wood tones?

Our Current Abode

My husband, Spencer, and I moved into our current apartment in July 2011. We've had a great time living in Atlanta and shared some great times with friends and family in this apartment. We're excited to be moving into a much bigger home but we want to remember our first place in Atlanta - the place we lived when we became engaged and then got married! So here are a few pictures of our 900 square foot, 1 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment.

The Living Room
A few years ago when the housing market crashed, my mom, grandparents, and I went to a going out of business sale where the builder was selling its model home furniture. We bought the sofa, coffee table, matching end table (not shown), and wall unit (not shown), and mirror for a fabulous price.
